Artists
Welcome!
Downtown Luray, VA Now An Art and Cultural District Luray, VA
On February 8, 2010 the Luray Town Council voted. The Council
officially declared a major portion of downtown Luray an “Arts and
Cultural District.” The Virginia General Assembly historically has
granted this designation. But, in 2009, former Governor Tim Kaine
signed legislation granting individual localities authority to create
arts and cultural districts. Economic development advocates, Luray
Downtown Initiative (LDI) and Luray-Page Chamber of Commerce (LPCC),
with the help of local citizens introduced this opportunity to
community leaders in late 2009.

Shop
Local!!
What
is a Buy Local campaign? Many people give little consideration to
the choice between a locally owned store and a chain when deciding
where to shop. They do not know the benefits to their town's economy
of choosing local businesses and are unaware of the many hidden costs
of opting for the big boxes. Think about Downtown Luray. Here,
you can park your car and can easily walk down Main Street to buy pool
supplies, office supplies, candles, gifts, clothes, custom choppers,
athletic gear, bikes, books, flowers, antiques, country decor, and
fine art. You can get a hair cut, a massage, have a prescription
filled, take in a movie, see a dentist, visit an insurance agent, take
a music lesson and cash a check at the bank. This is not even to
mention that you also have more than 10 choices in restaurants!
Wow!!
Downtown
Luray does have a lot to offer! The SHOP LOCAL LURAY logo that
you see above will be very visible in Luray as our Shop Local campaign
gets more and more underway. Currently, we are working on a
promotional item for our local merchants: a custom imprinted "Money
Plant" seed packet with the shop local logo imprinted on it and text
thanking the customer for shopping local. The seed packet will be
pasted onto a postcard size piece of paper that lists the top 10
reasons why you should shop local. Once the seeds are planted,
and the plant grows, customers will be reminded that they spent their
"money" locally, and the seeds also nicely tie into our
"Going
Green" efforts! Seed packets and decals will
be arriving for distribution with local merchants soon! Keep an
eye out for the SHOP LOCAL logo...and remember: when you're
shopping, what you're looking for is right here in Luray! For
more information on our downtown businesses, visit our Downtown
Directory.
